more than just the least

Again, I wasn't personally present for this one. My brother Ojo has relayed the story of this quote on his blog, which draws its name from the same conversation as this quote. He mentions it here, but since his accursed blog lacks the basics of a search function and maintains only incomplete archives, you'll have to wait for his comment for the full story.

I'll see what I can do about the search function and archives.

Actually, this quote did not happen at the same time as the phrase "cursed with ambition" was coined by dad. But, they are related. I probably mixed the stories in retelling because they do go together. And frankly, I think I've forgotten the context of the cigarettes and beer quote, so I needed to weave it in somewhere.

As far as I can remember, we were discussing some lazy relative or someone who felt it was an injustice to have to go to work and pay bills, etc. Dad has accepted this plight of man to such a degree that he has enormous disdain for anyone who hasn't. So when he said it, he was saying, "Yeah, I'd like to fuck off all the time too, but I don't because I'm better than that." Drinking beer and smoking cigarettes dawn til dusk, like so many vagrants, would be the life for him, if not for ambition and life's required toils.

You think our kids will have a blog clowning us one day?

"Yeah, like that time dad pissed on that dude in Mexico. That was SO wizard!"

"I heard dad once threw a fork and it stuck in Uncle Matt's hand."

"Dad pissed in his oven one time."

Snake, I've been thinking about that a lot, and I'm sure they'll at least have stories about me that they laugh about. Blogging will be pretty passe by the time they've reached the point that I'm more amusing than life-ruining.
