I can't stand it!


A subtle classic catchphrase of Dad's. They don't look like much, those two words, but my dad has used them for years to communicate a range of ideas, from fatalism to disregard to complete disinterest.

Another example of Dad's trademark: the severely understated hyperbole. Or what would you call it?

I'd call this an example of "the exaggerated understatement", whereas "the understated exaggeration" is the classic "it's like the best one ever made" spoken rapidly and without emphasis.
