Sometimes I think a sharp stick in the eye is the worst thing my dad could imagine happening to someone. It's another quote that doesn't have any particular story associated with it because he uses it pretty generically.

You should try working these phrases into your conversations with your patients.
one thing that might be worse is if somebody, you know, cut your dick off.

I watched part of a trial where a woman cut a dudes dick off while he was tied up...then she sat his dick on the kitchen table and the pit bull took the dick off the table and it was never seen again (it was assumed the dog ate the dick)....the most humiliating part was that during the trial, they showed a photo of the poor bastards "nub"...talk about insult to injury.

I agree with red hot poker in the ass being worse, short-term. Long-term losing vision would suck much more.
